The South of England Showground at Ardingly was again bathed in sunlight for the start of the July Antiques & Collectors Fair. This made it a delight to walk around the showground admiring the colourful and inventive displays produced by many of the outside stallholders; but let's not forget the indoor stallholders!
The winner of the July Ardingly Antiques Fair 'Best Dressed Stall' was the stall exhibited by Mr Jonathan Biggs and his father John, who trade under the name J Collins & Son. Jonathan is the fourth generation to take on the mantle of running the family business and is a member of both BADA and LAPADA. Their main premises are in Bideford, North Devon, where they are ably assisted by Jonathan's mum Pamela, who (like his father John) continues to play an important part in the business.
The father and son team are regular exhibitors at iacf fairs at both Shepton Mallet and Ardingly (where they can be found in the Norfolk Pavillion) and specialise predominantly in Treen and 18th & 19th Century Furniture. In their opinion, the most interesting item they had at the July Ardingly Fair was a rare Jacobean Oak Mortar c.1620. (see picture) which is available on their webiste: www.collinsantiques.co.uk
