Winners claim their prize at Shepton Mallet Antiques Fair

Posted November 20th, 2017 by Grant Nicholas IACF and filed under IACF News & Other Interesting Stuff

In September, we ran a competition giving entrants the chance to win vouchers towards buying an antique at the next Shepton Mallet Antiques & Collectors Fair.

The prizes were: £100 for 1st place, £50 for 2nd and £25 for 3rd. The only condition was that the vouchers had to be used towards purchasing an antique or collectable item at a future Shepton Mallet fair. The winners were: 1st place - Janet Breeze; 2nd place Heather Piper; 3rd place Sally Monkhouse. Janet and Heather were able to attend the November event, Sally, however, was not, but sent her partner Heather Clewett in her place.

The fair was bursting with choice as usual. There were nearly 600 stalls, inside and out,  displaying an enormous variety of stock, from 17th Century furniture through to contemporary ceramic and glassware, from oriental vases to Beatles memorabilia - there was something for every taste and budget!

Janet, who attended with her daughter Julie, was delighted with her find of a Tangerine coloured Pineapple vase, designed by Geoffrey Baxter: "My daughter and I really enjoyed the fair, I am very pleased with my final choice of a Whitefriars Vase, it is really lovely." said Janet, who regularly attends the event at the Bath & West Showground.

Heather Piper and her husband John used their vouchers to help purchase six Waterford Crystal glasses from the stall belonging to Anne Broom. "I've been searching for some of these for a while now, so it's great to finally find some." said a happy Heather.

Finally, Heather Clewett (on behalf of Sally) chose a beautiful, small, silver and enamel perfume bottle c.1935, bought from stallholder Trixie Frampton.

Congratulations to all of the winners; we hope you enjoy your purchases for many years to come.

The next Shepton fair is on Friday 12th - Sunday 14th January
