Lilly Loray attends Antiques and Collectors Fair – Ally Pally 1st May

Next fair: Sunday 4th September 2022

Hello, I’m Lilly Loray and founder of my retro homewares company, where I find retro and antique items for you to upcycle for your home.

On Sunday 1st May I had the pleasure of going to the Alexandra Palace Antiques and Collectors Fair for a fabulous Sunday out enjoying London in all its glory.

This has to be my favourite London fair by a mile. This is because the grounds of Alexandra Palace coupled with the heritage of the building (including the famous Rose Window) is just fascinating. The view Alexandra Palace has over London is such a sight that you can picnic, snooze and do a spot of shopping all in the same day, it’s an ideal spot on a sunny Sunday, and it was sunny, I tell thee!

The antiques fair itself is set in the palace hall, which was built back in the 1800s for entertaining, education and culture. So it’s a perfect place for a wonderful array of stallholders to display their finery.

This fair not only does ceramics, jewelry and silver pieces but it has also collaborated with Pop Up Vintage London. This wonderful pop up fair brings in exuberant furniture, antique dealers, vintage clothing, accessories and so much more it’s a feast for your eyes. Not only that, cafes watch over the fair at each corner of the room to enable you to take a seat back, relax and people watch as you think about your next antique purchase.

My first sighting were these wonderful Milton Tiles, which have so much heritage. I think these would look absolutely fabulous as a border to a bathroom sink or kitchen sink decoration, coupled with some white or cream metro tiles to really make your home unique to you.

My next little adorable find was this old fashioned Telephone Table, accompanied with a stool too. This handy little contraption has so much character, inlcuding a draw to keep your phone books in, a pull out desk to include your top 10 friends and family numbers and space to place your retro telephone in all its glory. I especially love it’s pull out neat stool which you could absolutely recover in your favourite fabric.

When looking for something that really sets off your rustic and eclectic home why not try these upcycled as bedside lamps?

They really give the wow factor in any home.

Storage these days is a big issue, espcially finding unique ways to store instead of a cheaply manufacturered and lifeless cupboard. I found these beautiful rustic shelves that are the perfect way to show off your kitchen utensils, or sitting room book collection, by bringing colour to your home because it’s on show.

I’ve had a thoroughly enjoyable day and picked up some luxurious antique and retro items that have story, heritage and meaning to them. Why by new? When you can upclycle these unusual items, that somehow fit perfectly beautifully into your home.

Our next fair is on the 4th Sept!
