Known in the antiques industry as John or Johnny, he bought his first antiques piece in an East Anglian Auction at the age of ten! This allowed him to learn from some dealers associated with his mother, who was an avid collector (and sometimes seller!) of high quality antiques that were often featured on the Arthur Negus programme, “Talking about Antiques.”
His career in the music industry did not deter his interest in the trade, and from his grass-roots start – whilst taking an 8 year break from professional trumpet playing – he rose to exhibiting decorative arts at many of the top fairs both in the UK and Europe and has supplied top names in the trade. John has also headed up the RAFDA trade association that campaigned for real antiques only and against the rise of new goods in fairs. Now semi-retired, he still loves finding appealing and sometimes important pieces and chatting his friends in the trade.
Make sure to visit John and his incredible items for sale at stand J25 in the Natwest Building at the Festival of Antiques on Friday 1st & Saturday 2nd October.
