Serhat Ahmet is an antiques expert, who specialises in European porcelain, particularly the period 1720 to 1935.

Serhat worked for his family antiques business for over 25 years and set up on his own in 2013. You can view Serhat’s carefully selected antiques collection at his store in Covent Garden, London, or visit his website.

At the Festival of Antiques, Serhat spoke with iacf antiques dealers about collecting victorian antiques and art nouveau antiques, and why the Festival of Antiques is the best place for collectors to find those rare antiques finds.

Glass Pineapple Lighting one lucky customer added to their Victorian collection.

Specialist antiques dealer, Serhat Ahmet takes a look at a range of Victorian antiques, Art Deco collectibles and an impressive art nouveau collection at the Festival of Antiques this October.

Antiques expert, Serhat, discovered how just one stall holds everything from 1880 – 1935, with antiques fitting different price ranges and styles.

Serhat and Deborah, our iacf antiques dealer, discusses how you can bring the older things together with minimalist design, allowing the other to enhance the other.

Antiques expert, Serhat agrees and expresses how “you don’t need to collect dozens and dozens of antiques in one area, you can perhaps display one bold antique item and surround it by perhaps more modern pieces, truly allowing the antique item to host the room.”

Our stallholder agrees and expresses how Serhat’s statement is supported by the quality of the craftsmanship, the medium that the pieces are in and its personal presence.

In our dealers’ view (and perhaps a lot other’s!) old things have a lot more style, and you can really see the quality and design differences in older pieces.

“You can’t make antiques, people try, but if you get a repro the difference is so glaring”, our stallholder expresses. Serhat agrees, and further adds how brilliant it is to go to the Festival of Antiques to handle items and see them in person.

He adds, “online is great, and we’ve had to adjust to it a lot more, but nothing beats meeting a dealer and seeing the objects and understanding the history of the object straight from the dealer”, which the Festival of Antiques allows thousands of people to do.

Deborah agrees with this and further expresses how dealers can also be generous with prices at antiques fairs. Not only that, you also get incredible amounts of information alongside your purchases, mainly because “antiques dealers are doing what they love”. This is beautifully put by Deborah, iacf antiques stallholder.
